Midgardsormr (sometimes stylised as Midgar Zolom) is a recurring figure within the FF franchise, often taking the form of a giant serpent. XIV breaks the trend by having turned him into a dragon - and not just any dragon, but the progenitor of all dragonkind that we see on Hydaelyn. Deceased (in a sense) before the story begins, the body of the great wyrm is wrapped around a fallen Garlean airship in the middle of a lake, the most obvious relics of the Battle of Silvertear Skies fifteen years prior to your adventuring self coming to Eorzea. We first meet Midgardsormr in the aftermath of A Realm Reborn, and he and his brood pop up across expansions. In Stormblood (2017), we learn that Midgardsormr is a refugee from a far-flung star and was granted succor by the goddess Hydaelyn. Which only makes the thousand-year long Dragonsong War all the more tragic.

Originally packaged for the Collector's Edition of Heavensward, which came with a special art box (a black box with artwork by Yoshitaka Amano on the sides), a Midgardsormr statue, two art books, a Blu-ray disc containing all the trailers released thus far, and some digital in-game items (a flying griffin mount, a helm themed after FFIV's Dark Knight Cecil, a minion of FFIV's Kain, and a character customising potion).

The statue is static, standing on a plastic base around 1cm tall with the name of the expansion engraved on a silver plastic inlay. Midgardsormr stands at around 12cm tall.

He's mostly monochrome, but the underside of his wings is a gorgeous deep red. He takes the form not of his full self wrapped around the Agrias, but of the flying mount of himself that he grants to you, replete with saddle. I wouldn't recommend sitting on this one.

There are three points for Midgardsormr to rest on - unfortunately, due to a manufacturing error, Middy doesn't sit on these parts at all. I got his tail to fit into the notch where it's meant to lie, but his feet don't align with the grooves. Nudging him slightly sends him sliding off the base.

He's easily the smallest of all the Collector Edition figures, and the only one prone to sliding off his stand to freedom. I suppose a lifetime of fleeing a murder robot hasn't quite left him yet.
